I believe the portraits I make for my clients today will be looked at, enjoyed, and treasured every day for the rest of their lives and for generations that follow. For that reason, I am committed to producing the finest photographic portraits possible – true family heirlooms. I have refined the following process throughout my long career to ensure that clients enjoy the entire portrait experience and are thrilled with their finished portraits.
Step 1 - The Planning and Design Consultation
Every portrait begins with a conversation between the artist and the client. Whenever possible I highly recommend that all decision-makers. The purpose is to clarify what you want your portrait to look like and to discuss what you can do to get optimal results. Among the topics discussed and decisions made are:
- Who will be photographed: an individual or the entire family
- Your preference for a formal or casual style
- Where the portrait session will take place: your home or another site
- The right time and day to achieve the very best results
- What typically happens during a portrait session and why
- What you want to own forever when your session is complete
Step 2 -The Portrait Session
All portrait sessions take place on location – either at your home or a preferred outdoor site. Session lengths vary - depending on the quantity and ages of the subjects being photographed. I always recommend that clients allow for two hours of uninterrupted time – without cell phones.
Step 3 - The Selection Appointment
This next meeting is scheduled at the conclusion of the portrait session. Here we discuss artistic changes and retouching that I will perform. All decision-makers must be present and prepared to make final decisions on the portraits you choose to own.
